Pre-Order The 1979 edition of the DAYTONA 500® was a pinnacle in “The King,” Richard Petty’s illustrious career. It was also the race that launched NASCAR® stock car racing into the national spotlight, where it has remained ever since. The race marked the first live, flag-to-flag, broadcast of a NASCAR® event. With a nation-wide audience tuning in to see stock car racing’s best battle for the prestigious DAYTONA® victory, Petty seemed all but out of contention for the win on the race’s final lap. The two leaders battled one another for the win on the last lap, but it was almost a half-track ahead of the third-place No. 43 car. Then, in what has become the turning-point in the history of NASCAR®, the two leaders tangled on the DAYTONA® backstretch and left the door open for Petty to take the lead. “The King” passed the crashed leaders’ cars, then took the checkered flag for his sixth career win in the “All-American Race.” As Petty drove his iconic No. 43 car to Victory Lane, the leaders that had crashed on the final lap fought one another on the track, marking one of the most iconic scenes in the sport’s lore. Now, to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Petty family’s involvement in NASCAR®, and to rekindle memories of a milestone race in the sport’s history, Lionel Racing is excited to make the Raced-Win version die-cast of Richard Petty’s 1979 DAYTONA 500®-winning Oldsmobile available for order.
